But to look at any kind of serious power, you're talking big bucks for a forging or billet for your 540. I imagine that if you under-drove a 6-71 or 8-71, preferably with no Teflon (so-called street blower), you could get away with a cast crank. The ones that he had seen (and maybe tried once?) wound up breaking the snouts off the cranks. But here's more "food for thought" regarding lower-end decisions: Years ago, Fritz Voight (Mickey Thompson's crew chief during his Pontiac years) advised me to not waste my time building a Jimmy-blown Pontiac with a cast crank. Good luck, Steve Barcak You've already gotten a lot of good pointers here. It it is a door type car, the cowl/firewall may have to be altered. Of couse, that will depend on what you are putting the motor it. It works well and may be a good idea if you need more room from the blower. I solved the problem by using a universal mag offset made by Arias. I used a standard magneto with my 6-71 but when the rules changed and required SFI blower bags, my mag wouldn't clear any more. For the top (transformer) you can buy new, used or rebuilt just like the fuel pump. I sell Pontiac magneto bases new and you can use any MSD or Mallory top with it. Lots of spark and no need for a charging system too.

If you use alky I recommend using port nozzles too.įor ign. You run much more compression with alky to get the most power. I would recommend Gene Adams though there are others who are reputable as well.Īs for compression, it depends on if you will use gas of alky.

Have someone who knows what they are doing set up your first system. fuel pumps, barrel valves, hats, snouts, pullies are the same deal. I just bought another blower manifold on ebay for less than $400 as an example. You can put togeter a system for less over time if you look for deal on used parts. You could also go with brackets, pullies and belts.Ĭosts depend on so much. I build my own cam driven fuel pump parts for Pontiacs too. You always need to be able to deliver more fuel than the motor needs at any time. The reason is the pump will pump twice the fuel at twice the engine speed. If you are going to run meachanical injection, you should run a mechanical pump.
